The Middle Rio Grande corridor is facing increasing pressure:Post-fire erosion and sedimentationWater scarcity and irrigation efficiency challengesAging infrastructure and limited monitoring capacityGrowing demand for local, defensible dataOur LPF project is filling a much needed data gap.We're installing mesonet stations and soil moisture sensors—funded in part through NMSU WRRI—to track conditions at the local level and inform erosion control BMPs, irrigation scheduling, and watershed restoration.The data we collect supports:Landowners: Better decisions about irrigation, erosion control, and land managementAgencies: Defensible data for planning, permitting, and complianceCommunities: A shared understanding of watershed health and water availabilityResearchers: Local data that complements regional and state monitoring networks
